Material Girl Macy's press release

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 30, 2010 -- International Icon and world renowned Material Girl Madonna has teamed up with her daughter Lola to create a new fast-fashion junior collection "Material Girl” which is exclusively available at Macy’s, just in time for back-to-school season, and will be in-store on August 3rd.

Madonna commented, “Lola’s influences, you know, watching films, watching music videos - she pays attention to what's going on in the street and what people are wearing, and she's much more fashion forward and savvy than I am at this point!"

A teaser ad campaign will break on June 29, 2010 and will offer a hint of the celebrity muse for the launch of “Material Girl.” Madonna and Lola picked the muse who will appear in the multi-platform marketing campaign launching the first week of August,

Material Girl mixes hard and soft elements, like a tutu dress and studded combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt. Inspired and designed by the duo, "Material Girl" will also launch in multiple categories including footwear, handbags and jewelry and will be available exclusively in approximately 200 Macy’s stores and online at www.macys.com.

“We mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine. It's not complicated. It's dressing in layers. It's not looking like you took too much time thinking about what you're wearing,” says Madonna.

Visit http://www.macys.com/materialgirl or the “Material Girl” Facebook and Twitter pages to see more exciting imagery and behind the scenes videos featuring our Material Girl, along with Lola’s blog on what’s hot in fashion and a sweepstakes for a chance to meet Madonna at Macy’s Herald Square in September.

One year ago today......MJ R.I.P.

Today marks the one year anniversary that we lost the greatest legend in pop music of all time, Michael Jackson.

Most of us remember this sad day with a shock, a black day and a day full of disbelief. Michael Jackson was just about to make his comeback with 50 sold out shows in the O2 in London, unfortunately he wasn't given the chance to present his masterpiece to the world.

Madonna opened her second leg of the Sticky & Sweet Tour in the O2 created a MJ tribute in Holiday, had many MJ references and spoke about him in her speeches.

A year passes by so fast, but the sadness remains

Madonna, daughter Lourdes partner on junior fashion line

Material Girl will be sold at Macy's for back-to-school season. Sketches were released Tuesday
Madonna is hoping to go from fashion icon to fashion mogul with her latest endeavor. The pop star and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, are partnering on a junior fashion line called Material Girl, which will be sold exclusively at Macy's for back-to-school season, and although the clothes won't land in stores until Aug. 3, sketches were released Tuesday.

The line is named after Madonna's 1984 hit song, and there are some similarities to the pop star's 1980s iteration — the (very) short skirt, the corset top, the layered jewelry. But the muse is Lourdes, or Lola as she is known, Madonna's daughter with trainer Carlos Leon.

Material Girl will include apparel, footwear, jewelry and handbags, and items will range from $12 to $40.
The first collection mixes hard and soft elements, "like a tutu dress and studded-combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt," according to a news release.

From the sketches, the collection doesn't look to be anything wildly new. There's a little Betsey Johnson in the floral dress, a little Versace in the star print, and a little Madonna in the skinny jeans and bustier combo. If anything, the clothes appear overly sophisticated for the demographic.

Of course, if you're Madonna or anything like her, it may be almost impossible to lecture your teenage daughter about age-appropriateness. "I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste," Madonna said in a statement about her daughter's involvement. "We like to combine … a plaid or a flannel with a lace, or leather with lace or rhinestones. So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine."

Material Girl is being designed in collaboration with the in-house design team at Iconix Brand Group. The New York-based firm owns several other lines aimed at the gum-smacking set, including Bongo, Rampage and Candie's, and has stakes in Ed Hardy and Danskin. Madonna and her manager, Guy Oseary, formed a new company, MG Icon, to focus on future fashion projects, including eyewear. MG (Madonna and Guy) owns 50% of Material Girl, and Iconix owns the other 50%.

This is not Madonna's first go at fashion. In 2007, she teamed up with H&M for the M by Madonna line, with styles deemed too staid by some critics (a white trench coat and white sequined minidress were top sellers, but there wasn't a cone bra in sight). And she has also had a long friendship with Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who cast her as a Sicilian housewife for their spring 2010 advertising campaign, doing dishes and eating spaghetti with her hands.

Madonna: Desperate Italian Housewife

By Advocate.com Editors

More images from the Madonna-led winter 2011 women's wear campaign for Dolce & Gabbana have surfaced with the star appearing like a weary yet beautiful Italian housewife.

D&G online magazine Swide has released a full slide show of the campaign: Madonna is seen crying, washing dishes, eating pasta, and putting on makeup. The campaign was shot in a Manhattan convent this winter by Steven Klein and was inspired by Italian films of the 1950s and '60s.

Swide describes the campaign: "This winter's Dolce & Gabbana women's wear advertising campaign is like a family photo album where dignity, beauty find all their ways of expression: an impromptu tango in the living room, a heartfelt laughter luminescent in form, faces, serious, proud."

Madonna boost for Lawnfest event at Sevenoaks school

fMadonna dropped in to a charity music event at a Kent school, organised by the daughter of Mohamed Al Fayed.

The Lawnfest fundraiser was held on Friday night in aid of The New School at West Heath, Sevenoaks.

Pop star Lemar was the headline act at the event to boost the school's bursary fund, organised by Camilla Fayed.

Madonna's appearance was to help publicise the event, which also included an art exhibition, although she did not perform.

The New School aims to rebuild young damaged lives through education.

Principal Christina Wells said: "This fundraiser will help grant a bursary for those young people whose lives have been damaged by abuse, bereavement, bullying or other trauma."
